Practice

 

In the new QuestionPoint system we have full time access to our own Practice area. When you use the Practice area the statistics are not counted with your regular statistics either.

 

Starting up

Log into QuestionPoint using any of your librarian accounts. At the home page you'll find access to the practice area in links on the left hand side. Start up the standard Launch Chat librarian part first. You can run both the librarian and patron parts on one computer, especially if you have a large monitor. The two versions will end up opening in two separate windows. This can tend to get very confusing for both the operator and sometimes the computer. Instead try to use 2 separate computers and better yet, and much more fun, two separate librarians.

 

 

Librarian initiation

After clicking the Launch Chat link shown above, just check the Monitor "Practice Queue" Only box. Note you'll only monitor the Practice Queue then, none others.

 

 

When you click the Save button you pop up a notice that you're monitoring the "Practice Queue".  Click OK to move on.

 

 

Patron practice start up

Go back to the window which has your My QuestionPoint librarian desktop and Click on the - Chat Patron Practice Form link which pops up the box as below. Fill it out and click the Submit button. We like to leave the E-Mail box empty because at the end of a session the system will show how patrons can then choose to have a transcript sent to them after a session and it remains anonymous.

 

 

 

Then you play in the system as librarian and patron. Chating in standard method or going on to co-browsing as you choose.  When you're done and both the practicing patron and librarian end their sessions.  Make sure the librarian does Select Resolution for the session as "Practice" and Clicks Add.  This keeps your practice session out of your regular statistics.

 

 

 

Email Practice

We also have an email/web form practice space.  To answer web form questions in the practice space, as a practice librarian, contact Mark Beatty, mbeatty@wils.wisc.edu, to receive a practice autho.  You see submit web form questions to the practice space using this URL:
